How to Throw an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

I love the holiday season and my favorite way to get everyone together is with an Ugly Christmas Sweater party!

It’s the perfect way to re-purpose that hideous sweater Grandma got you 5 years ago or go out and grab a funny knit jumper with glowing Christmas lights.

1. Get Your Invites Out Early

The holidays are a popular time for get togethers so put together an invite list and mail out those invitations asap!

I picked up these adorable square holiday party invitations from Tiny Prints.

They’re an online card company with a huge assortment of fantastic holiday cards for every situation – newlywed, family, etc.

They have an amazing amount of ways to truly personalize your cards, including free recipient addressing on any custom envelope, various envelope colors and fun envelope inserts to choose from!

You can order the more traditional “photo” holiday family cards and jazz it up with personalized colors, foils and glitters to make it your own.

The foil colors are quite elegant (gold, silver, rose gold and red) if you want to make a statement with your cards. I also really liked the multi-functional ornament cards and the laser cut cards which looked quite intricate.

If you prefer a bit more bling, Tiny Prints’ glitter cards are great since they don’t leave that pesky “glitter everywhere” trail!

Ugly Christmas Party Invitation

I chose these square holiday card invitations with the cutest ugly Christmas sweaters on the front.

For the envelopes I went with gold square envelopes and holiday snowflake stamps. The U.S. post office charges a bit more for square envelopes so just keep that in mind.

I also picked a second card type, these merry Holiday Cocktail invitations and selected two envelope liners – a matching cocktail drink liner and a striped green and white one along with deep red envelopes.

I know these holiday invitations are for the party but boy are they cute! I wanted to keep as just holiday decor.

2. Grab an Ugly Christmas Sweater

I’ve made some bad purchases in the past and have a solid collection of stripey patterned, ill fitting knits that are perfect for a party.

If you don’t already have one lying around, a great place to get inexpensive ugly Christmas sweaters is Amazon or Etsy.

3. Create a Festive, Holiday Cocktail

To loosen your guests up and get the party flowing, put together a fun holiday cocktail. If you have a bar cart handy, decorate it with evergreen boughs and pile on glasses to create a central mingling station.

My favorite winter cocktail is a Holiday Paloma – essentially tequila, grapefruit juice + club soda with the addition of some pomegranate seeds.

The pomegranate adds a festive red color to the drink and with tequila and grapefruit juice, it’s a huge crowd pleaser!
