I was fortunate to visit San Francisco for work in mid December. Right after checking in to the hotel, I dropped off my luggage, grabbed my camera and hopped on the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf. I know, I know, classic tourist move but I couldn’t help but want to visit.
The cable car system threw me at first. It runs only on cash (a hefty $6 each way) and I had left my bank cards back home on the east coast. After a quick scramble, I got my fare (thanks Chase!) and waited patiently in the middle of the street for the next cable car at Powell and Market headed north. It’s evidently a popular thing to do, as I had to wait for the fourth cable car to arrive before I was able to squeeze onboard. And once on, I was on the outer ridge straddling the folks sitting down so with each downward hill and turn, I was gripping hard for dear life. Luckily, it was a short ride from Union Square park, where I was staying, to Fisherman’s Wharf.
