sketch Gallery

sketch is a unique London restaurant, housed in the former headquarters of the Institute of Architects where each room has been divided into a unique dining space. We had dinner at the  Gallery, one of the larger informal dining rooms currently designed by Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed. (Creed was also commissioned to mark the beginnings of the London Olympic games, where he designed Work No. 1197 “all the bells in the country rung as quickly as possible and as loudly as possible for three minutes” at 8:12 AM on July 27, 2012).

Dinner was very good, but what I really enjoyed was the atmosphere. After 10 years of being in business, sketch commissioned Martin Creed to redesign the Gallery space. His concept, that no two objects would be the same, manifests itself in each unique plate, cutlery, table and chair. Meanwhile, the gallery’s marble floor is composed of 96 different types of marble. What might seem like a jumbled, chaotic mess is actually artfully well done. The cocktails were delicious and fruity, the mains solid. I really enjoyed dessert (as always) and definitely recommend sketch to any out of towners who might be interested in a funky fun dining experience! Unfortunately, my photos were taken in pretty poor lighting so excuse the unappetizing yellow cast on the food.

P.S. If you do go, you MUST check out the bathrooms loo.
