The Best Furniture Stores in NYC for Every Budget

Furniture Stores in New York City

Today I realized it’s been over a year since I moved into my apartment solo and it feels great.

Before I always had a revolving door of roommates and different random pieces of furniture so I never really felt like I could decorate.. plus I was on the tightest budget possible.

Now that I have a place that’s all my own, I’ve slowly filled it up with furniture and accessories that fit my style (although to be honest, I’m still figuring out what exactly my style is) and that fit my wallet!

I’ve shopped everywhere, from higher end to budget and wanted to share a couple of my favorite home stores.

The Best NYC Furniture Stores

the-best-nyc-furniture-stores-for-every-budget-cb2

CB 2

I love CB2’s kitchenware in particular. They have gorgeous marble pieces, cocktail glasses and serving platters. I also really like their furniture, like this modern sleigh bed and in general they focus on modern furniture.

Occasionally, they’ll do fun celebrity collaborations and they also have a “studio” which produces apartment sized furniture.

Amazon Home

Lately, it feels like Amazon is expanding into everything.

Their furniture though, is actually great for the price! We’ve bought a couple velvet bed frames through Amazon (this grey one and this navy one) and been happy with the quality for the cost.

In particular, check out Rivet for mid-century modern, Stone & Beam for comfy traditional and Ravenna for classic decor. Amazon Home even has a Dorm collection and a collaboration with Jonathan Adler!

Anthropologie

Boho meets bougie. I love to check in on Anthropologie online to see their home & kitchen section although there are select stores in NYC that carry home pieces including Rockefeller Center and Chelsea Market.

Best for: cute kitchen flatware, bowls & mugs; statement rugs and mirrors; velvet couches and daybeds. If you love color, pattern and whimsical, this is the home store for you.

West Elm

I always like to pop into West Elm for their accessories.

They have lots of great dinnerware and flatware – from classic white plates, glam stuff for a new year’s eve dinner, retro Italian coffee cups etc. They have centerpieces, dessert plates, napkin rings etc too.

I’ve been eyeing their container storage ceramics for things like coffee, tea and flour forever – West Elm can be a little bit pricier but has frequent sales. West Elm is the more contemporary sister brand to Pottery Barn and William Sonoma Home.

Pottery Barn

I love Pottery Barn for their holiday decor, candle holders and bed/bath furniture.

I bought my bed frame here as I was looking specifically for a tufted, higher back frame of high quality. If you want the tufted bed frame look without a huge price tag, check out any of the online sites.

If you want really beautiful fabric that covers the full front and back, buy it from Pottery Barn. They also assemble which was very helpful. Pottery Barn sister brands include William Sonoma Home and West Elm.

Best Home Furniture Store H&M Home

H&M Home

If you thought H&M only had clothes, you’re missing out!

I love H&M for trendy home decor, like bath and kitchen accessories. I’m always picking up cute jars, plates and canisters for kitchen storage and switching out my sheets way too often because their bedding sets are so affordable.

They have a huge, constantly rotating selection of new home accessories and the full selection is online. I find the quality to be decent for the price but HM Home also has a premium collection as well as an eco-conscious line.

In NYC, you can head to their 5th avenue store to shop their home stuff.

In particular, they carry sofas and furniture for different styles (beachy, mid century modern, industrial, farmhouse) and for every room – patio, nursery, teen, living, bath, etc.

They also have a good selection of products sized for small spaces! I pop in to their Tribeca store to check out the new nick knacks, but the full selection is only shoppable online.

Jonathan Adler

There are a number of physical Jonathan Adler stores in New York and I always love popping in to see what’s new. He specializes in “pop culture-y” kind of furniture – think bright colors, modern shapes and fun quirky accents.

I absolutely love his reading chairs and bar carts but am saving up as they’re currently out of my budget!

the-best-nyc-furniture-stores-for-every-budget-restoration-hardware

Restoration Hardware

For a long time, I wanted my apartment to be a walking RH catalog. They build these massive “concept stores” in large cities and literally everything in them is drool worthy… but not at all made for the tight confines of the average NYC apartment. I did save up to buy some items here like my bed nightstands and a couch.

I give RH a huge thumbs up in the design department but wasn’t too impressed with the furniture quality. It definitely is pricey and originally I bought a bedroom chest but the drawers didn’t have soft close and kept arriving with nicks so if you really love the design spring for it, but for quality and function maybe look elsewhere.

They do have great customer service though!

Hi All, where can I find the picture/store in the lead-in page? It has a dining table, tall black trim windows, and the most wonderful rug – black (navy?) with ivory images of animals and plants. I’d love to find that rug!
