A Game Day Upgrade with Frontera Wine Cabernet Sauvignon

On game nights, we used to really indulge and order in pizza, wings and all manner of unhealthy fried foods but lately, we’ve been opting to cook healthier versions of comfort staple meals.

One of my favorite dinners to make is Everyday Meatballs – I use the recipe from Smitten Kitchen. The meatballs are very easy to put together and when you make them yourself, you can control the ingredients and slow cook them in tomato sauce instead of frying for a healthier twist. We like to serve with either spaghetti or in buttery bruschetta buns for a meatball sub!

Either way, our go to drink for these game nights is a glass of Frontera Wine cabernet sauvignon! It pairs perfectly with all our favorite game day foods and makes every moment of game watching tasty.

Everyday Meatballs

via Smitten Kitchen with slight tweaks

Makes 22 to 24 small meatballs

Ingredients:

1 pound beef (I use 85% lean)

1 pound ground pork

2/3 cup bread crumbs

1/3 cup milk

2 tablespoons parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons salt

pinch of black pepper

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

2 garlic cloves

2 large eggs

2 cans tomato paste

Directions

In a large bowl, add all ingredients except eggs and tomato paste. Mash ingredients with a fork until loosely combined then add in two eggs and mix again.

Form 1 to 2 inch meatballs and arrange on a plate. Set in fridge for ~30 minutes to help them cool and hold their shape

In a large pan, add olive oil and tomato paste. Place meatballs one by one and let simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes.

Serve with pasta or baguette!

How do you celebrate game day?
