Faux Olive Tree
I was looking for a faux tree to add to my living room.
I wanted something big, with the right proportions, so it would make a statement in the room.
And it had to be fake – I didn’t want to deal with soil or watering and I wanted the flexibility to place it anywhere in the room, even in a darker spot.
Most of the faux olive trees available look… well, really fake.
And then after a lot of searching, I finally found a realistic one!
It’s big, beautiful, super realistic and 100% worth the price.

Realistic Artificial Trees
First, here are some of the faux tree options I considered:

Ultimately, I chose this one.
It's a luxurious, life-like replica of a black olive tree, or a terminalia buceras.
It looked the most realistic and styled to me out of all the faux olive trees that I saw, and I liked that it was really large – a true statement piece.
I was able to see it in person, and touch and feel it and it's SO realistic!
The trunk is made from solid, real-wood and each branch's leaves are hand painted. They look and feel really realistic.
Not neon green or super plastick-y.
You can gently bend and position each individual branch and tiny leaf into place for the exact look you want!

Vert House Faux Tree Review
There are tons of faux olive tree styles out there, but personally I really liked how minimalistic this one was.
Some of the artificial trees are too short, or have multiple trunks, or really fake looking side forked branches.
This one is has such a calming, organic shape and looks really elegant.
I like that it brings a zen and minimalist vibe to my space, because I want my NYC apartment to feel calm despite the chaos of the city outside.
And it’s beautifully made, with a central stem and then side branches that let a lot of air and space through.
It also looks super realistic – like someone took the time to thoughtfully prune and shape it!

The tree comes in two heights – 6 feet and 7 feet.
I debated between the sizes but went for the taller 7 foot version.
The ceiling in my NYC apartment is 9 feet so I figured the taller 7 ft tree would give the right sense of scale and height for the space.
I was pleasantly surprised when everything came!
The tree comes in one gigantic box and when I unboxed it, I almost thought I made a mistake because it was SO tall!

In hindsight, I think the smaller 6 ft tree would have also worked pretty well.
They really give you value for money because the tree seems to be quite a bit taller.. almost 8 feet in person.
Once I pushed down the branches though and fluffed up the tree, the 7 foot tall fits my living room beautifully!
So if your ceilings are roughly similar to mine, I think you’d be ok with the shorter 6 foot tree.
In person, the tree feels and seems a lot taller, and there’s some wiggle room depending on how you position the branches.

Faux Tree Statement Planter
I also wanted a statement planter.
I think the key to making a faux tree look beautifully styled in a room is to
- get a realistic looking tree but
- also pot it in a beautiful planter
I went with this ceramic planter.
I really liked that it was made from natural materials.
It's hefty and solid, but not too heavy that I can’t lift it or move things around.
It arrived packaged really well, with tons of stuffing and cushioning so it wasn’t damaged.

It's a large, round ceramic vessel.
The finish is like matte grey-white, like natural stone (but without the insane heavy weight!)
I love how the opening is slightly irregular and not a perfect circle.
It's slightly off center and I think it gives it a more organic, natural look!
The planter also makes the entire assembled tree somehow looks more fluid and feminine.
And finally, it's a proper planter not just decor.
This one has drainage holes and can be used indoors or out.

I love that the olive tree came pretty much assembled, right out of the box.
I just positioned some of the branches and fluffed up certain spots and it was unboxed and ready in ~15 minutes!
I just need some kind of topper to complete the look..
I was thinking green moss at first, but I saw a faux tree styled with smooth pebbled stones which looked really different and chic.
If anyone has recommendations for the best topper to cover the stuffing inside the planter… let me know!
